Caps Lock Moderation

Keep conversations readable and friendly.

Typing in ALL CAPS can make messages feel loud or overwhelming, especially in active channels. Caps Lock Moderation helps keep chats comfortable by gently stepping in when messages become hard to read.

This feature is designed to guide behavior, not interrupt conversation. Most of the time, a small reminder is all that’s needed.

Note: Ban Actions

Automatic bans are currently not supported by Discord auto moderation. At this time, Discord does not allow auto moderation rules to directly ban members.

If this policy changes in the future, Mochi will be updated to support it where appropriate.

What Caps Lock Moderation Does

When enabled, Mochi watches for messages that contain too many capitalized words in a row. If the limit is exceeded, Mochi responds based on the options you choose.

You decide:

  • What action Mochi takes

  • Where the rule applies

  • Who the rule applies to

Anti-Caps Lock Options

All Caps Lock settings are grouped together and follow the same structure as Mochi’s other auto moderation tools.

⏳ Timeout Member

Temporarily restricts a member from sending messages when unreadable text is detected.

You can choose how long the timeout lasts:

  • 60 seconds

  • 5 minutes

  • 10 minutes

  • 1 hour

  • 1 day

  • 1 week

This allows you to match the response to your server’s tone — from gentle reminders to stronger cooldowns.

💬 Custom Message

Send a friendly message explaining what happened. This helps members understand the rule and adjust their behavior without confusion.

Example:

“Hey! Let’s keep things easy to read — try using fewer capital letters 😊”

🚨 Send Alert

When enabled, Mochi sends a moderation alert whenever caps moderation is triggered.

Turning this on unlocks an additional option:

📌 Logging Channel

Select the channel where these alerts should be sent. This allows moderators to stay informed without actively watching every channel.

Alerts are informative, not noisy — perfect for visibility without micromanagement.

🚫 Ignored Channels

Choose channels where Caps Lock Moderation should not apply.

This is useful for:

  • Announcement channels

  • Roleplay or hype channels

  • Event or celebration spaces

Messages in ignored channels will not trigger caps moderation.

🎭 Allowed Roles

Select roles that are exempt from Caps Lock Moderation.

Members with these roles can use capital letters freely without triggering moderation. This is helpful for:

  • Staff roles

  • Event hosts

  • Special announcer roles

🔢 Caps Limit

The caps limit controls how many consecutive capitalized words are allowed before Mochi steps in.

Example:

  • Caps limit set to 3

  • Moderation triggers at 4 or more capitalized words in a row

This keeps excitement possible without letting messages become hard to read.

🌱 Best Practices

  • Set a reasonable caps limit

  • Use friendly custom messages

  • Enable alerts if you want moderator visibility

  • Exclude high-energy channels if needed

  • Review alerts occasionally to fine-tune behavior

When configured well, Caps Lock Moderation works quietly in the background.

✨ Why It Matters

Readable conversations feel better for everyone.

Caps Lock Moderation helps:

  • Keep chats welcoming

  • Reduce accidental shouting

  • Support moderators automatically

  • Maintain a calm, friendly tone

When it’s working properly, most members won’t even notice — and that’s exactly the goal.
