Mentions Moderation

Prevent mass pings and keep notifications respectful.

Mentions are powerful — they grab attention instantly. But when overused, they can become disruptive, annoying, or overwhelming. Mentions Moderation helps keep notifications intentional by stepping in when too many people are pinged at once.

This keeps your server calm, readable, and friendly for everyone.

Note: Ban Actions

Automatic bans are currently not supported by Discord auto moderation. At this time, Discord does not allow auto moderation rules to directly ban members.

If this policy changes in the future, Mochi will be updated to support it where appropriate.

🌸 What Mentions Moderation Does

When enabled, Mochi watches for messages that mention too many users, roles, or global mentions like @everyone and @here.

If a message exceeds your mention limits, Mochi responds based on the options you choose.

You decide:

  • How Mochi responds

  • Where mention moderation applies

  • Who is allowed to mention freely

⚙️ Anti-Mentions Options

Mentions moderation follows the same simple structure as other auto moderation tools.

⏳ Timeout Member

Temporarily restricts a member from sending messages when unreadable text is detected.

You can choose how long the timeout lasts:

  • 60 seconds

  • 5 minutes

  • 10 minutes

  • 1 hour

  • 1 day

  • 1 week

This allows you to match the response to your server’s tone — from gentle reminders to stronger cooldowns.

💬 Custom Message

Send a friendly message explaining why the mention wasn’t allowed.

Example:

“Please avoid pinging too many people at once — it helps keep notifications calm 😊”

Clear messages reduce confusion and repeat behavior.

🚨 Send Alert

When enabled, Mochi sends an alert whenever mentions moderation is triggered.

Turning this on unlocks:

📌 Logging Channel

Select the channel where mention moderation alerts should be sent. This keeps moderators informed without needing to monitor every channel manually.

🚫 Ignored Channels

Choose channels where mention moderation should not apply.

Useful for:

  • Announcement channels

  • Event coordination spaces

  • Staff-only channels

Mentions in ignored channels will not trigger moderation.

🎭 Allowed Roles

Select roles that are allowed to use mentions freely.

Members with these roles can mention users or roles without triggering moderation. Helpful for:

  • Moderators and staff

  • Event hosts

  • Announcers

🔢 Unique Mentions

Set how many unique mentions are allowed in a single message before moderation triggers.

For example:

  • If set to 3, a message mentioning 4 or more different users or roles will trigger moderation.

This helps stop mass pings while still allowing normal conversation.

🌱 Best Practices

  • Keep unique mention limits low

  • Allow staff and announcer roles

  • Exclude announcement channels if needed

  • Use friendly custom messages

  • Enable alerts in large or public servers

Good mention moderation protects attention — without killing coordination.

✨ Why It Matters

Too many mentions can:

  • Interrupt conversations

  • Annoy members

  • Create notification fatigue

Mentions Moderation helps keep pings meaningful and respectful — automatically and calmly.
